Buy to Let are not in the business of finding rentable properties for stundents or other people which will be flats in this case, they are in the business of buying family homes to create a shortage and so to inflate their portfolio.

"no dibilitating effect on the area"
So the infastructure is paid for by the local council giving your property it's value - and you take the profits from that excercise and go and spend them elsewhere - not in the local community.
How is that sustainable?
This man is an un-apologetic Capitalist - quite happy to take profit by creating scarcity that isn't there.
....and as for property prices rising - he is simply showing his lack of understanding of how pricing mechanisms work. This is how Capitalism continues - simply because the people playing it have no idea what they are doing outside of their own little profit world they create.
I hope we have a return interview in 2010 when prices are sliding again and he is kicking tennants out as they loose their jobs.

@ mander
Agreed.
The buy to let boom has been driven by the promise of money for no work and has appealed to the greed of those involved. It has caused many decent hardworking families risk all in financial slavery and has resulted in almost absolute power for the banks.
Buy to let has caused misery for the majority whilst enriching a minority.

This meat head is FOOL.
If this was me, heaven forbid, I would cash in my millions and retire (zero risk) in complete comfort for the rest of my life. He does not have
much time left by the looks of him. However, that may be akin to asking a sociopath or paedophile to retire.
A victim of his own success? I hope he works to death.

He may not be erudite but he is very rich from doing nothing much except having the nuts to borrow an awful lot. I'm well educated, work hard and save and I'm poor. This man may not flaot your boat for a dinner party guest, but stupid he isn't.

As always, the master of subtlety and understatement.
