Nytimes: Japan Airlines to Cut Routes and 6,800 Jobs
TOKYO — Japan Airlines is prepared to undergo its largest-ever downsizing, cutting thousands of jobs and many of its routes, the struggling company’s chief executive said Tuesday.

Inevitable as the number of Japanese expats worldwide has dropped precipitously.
Code-sharing seems the only viable way forward. I'd be happy to be code-shared to JAL.
Unfortunately I've personally been code-shared from BA to "Iberico Airlines". It's a cheeky way of getting you to pay BA's premium prices and giving you a budget service.
