That said, I have watched her over the years with a sort of fascinated dismay, and in fairness I do not believe that she hates men. The truth is, I think, that she is filled with a deep and touching reverence for the wonder that is Harriet Harman and she would do anything to ensure that she achieves her full potential.
She sees the "equality agenda" as her ladder to the stars. (She is also very stupid.)

The private clubs which influence policy and the choice of personnel for top party posts are generally gentlemen's clubs. A few years ago Blair and Brown and Tory leaders often dined in such elite clubs with the great and the good. Mandelson keeps coming back because he is well connected with such groups.
