Aljazeera: US deficit surges past $1 trillion
The US federal deficit has ballooned past the $1 trillion mark for the first time and could grow to nearly $2 trillion by the end of the budget year.

To compare US national stats (in $) with British ones (in £) you need to divide by eight (population 5 times greater multiplied by exchange rate of 1.6)
That makes $1tn equate to £125bn - and we're on course to trump that by 50%
