Fort Knox won't like this..

BBC News: Audit fails to find missing gold

The Royal Canadian Mint has lost a little gold - about 0.32% or some £8m - peanuts, really.. - but with concerns that the US reserves have not had a proper audit since Eisenhower was in the White House, Mr Obama might feel it's a good time to count the pennies; while he's still the clean new kid in the Oval Office. Not really on-topic, but with so many gold hoarders using the yellow metal for their savings here, I thought I'd post it..

@4. doomwatch

Wrote an email a few years back to the BOE asking them exactly the same question.

The reply was very politcal and never really answered the question.

Show someone a tenner and ask them what your holding.

Most replies are "ten pound"

Then read out "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of TEN pounds" and ask them again what your holding?

If you take the £10 note to Threadneedle Street, they will give you either a more current £10 note, or ten £1 coins in return for it.
