Looks like Gordo nailed Fraser to me. I do like Fraser, but he's a confused lad some times, a bit like his accent.

The most awful thing is the promise to keep public spending rising i.e. more of the productive private sector wealth will be taken for the government's pet projects. For those who are fed up with Socialist tax and spend policies, Brown's response was equivalent to shouting "vote for the Tories!"
3. hpwatcher said...
I guess that means he is going to tax everybody to death then.......

Was the guy on he left of Nelson taking the mick. lol
This just shows Browns obsession with growth even when It would seem an impossibility to acheive this in the near future.
It would also go some way in explaining why Brown allowed a bubble of such historic proportions.
We now need a party of thrift and an ability to use public money in a less wastfull and more forward thinking manner.
Give me a party that truely cares for Britians future as in a balanced economic and social dynamic, and has the "collective credentials" to
acheive this; along with the humbleness to listen to there electorate and the wisdom to act upon that feedback.
May they also have a place for the likes of Fred Harrison. Such people have been ignored for too long!

Don't worry about nailing..... Caroline Flint provided a stiletto in the back of Gordon Brown. "Female window dressing" indeed!
Watch tomorrow's papers....this will run into Monday when the Euro results will show a much worse overall result for NuLabour.

Labour might be finished but the only likely alternative is New Tory. So, out would got the those fiddle their expenses for second homes, paid up home loans and church collection payments and in would come those who fiddle their expenses for duck houses, second homes, rent to relatives etc.
Frankly, what's the difference?

The day that the most powerful criminals are imprisoned or put out of action will be the day when things change.
That may not happen in our lifetime but one can only wish for that day eventually, for the sake of mankind and the future of our planet.

Increase in spending and delivery of service are two entirely different things. The former can be just feeding the parasitic fat cats even fatter.

Nailing? All I heard was some rabid Tory asking the same question repeatedly.

LP, quite, we need as a nation to rise above such things and sort ourselves out once and for all, unfortunately we need a great coalition of our finest to do this and unfortunately 90% of our politicians are quite frankly not fit for purpose.

Enuii, totally agree. The present crop are pretty much all worthless.
They either took part in the rape of our finances or stood by and were silent witnesses to the process.
What might return a little confidence would be to see some prosecutions for expenses fraud, reckless bankers etc

See that little Nick Robinson on the BBC.
His whole world is falling apart - and he's just a journalist.
Give me Judge Jules any day.

Crunchy @ 4. Great post - and I understood every word.
For those of us of more mature years, who have actually experienced several prime ministerships, it's as clear as day - at least as long as we have a two party system.
Labour screw up the economy - Tories put it right.
The reason being the Labour Party, to the core of their being, know that they can spend our money better than we can spend it ourselves.

...Yep, that's what I saw. DC refuses to even speak of such things - the consequenses will be dire when he gains power.

Nailed ? In what way ? Guy repeats same question, brown gives same answer, spending continues to rise. You are obvioulsy anti-brown and reading things into this.

Perhaps the British public is not to be trusted spending its own money.Instead of spending it on drink, pool tables, flash suits and socially useful stuff the GBP would rather stick it into property, inflating the housing bubbles which are rightly bemoaned on this site. They need repeated aversion therapy in the form of a tax on land values.
"The people know best how to spend their own money" is one of those commonplace expressions of right-wing opinion which does not stand up to cynical inquisition.

dbc reed @ 16. Land tax I agree with.
Wine, women and song? Why not if it's my money and I've already handed over a fair share in a variety of taxes. But a labour government spending wisely - it'll never happen. Incidentally I've never voted Tory in my life . . . the search for a good voting option gets ever more desperate.
"cynical inquisition" is a strange expression. Did you mean to use the word "clinical"?
19. crunchy said...
clinical incision. me thinks.
Made to look clumsy.
"Wine, women and song? Why not if it's my money and I've already handed over a fair share in a variety of taxes."
Right on bro! Do taxes ever stop? All money goes back to the government eventually, so get your fun before the government does.
Party on dude, just don't invite Brown. lol

Cynical scrutiny, inquisition by cynics er ..whatever.The point is: truisms are n't necessarily true .And" people are the best judges of how to spend their own money" is one of them. It's trotted out all the time as an argument clincher but it makes little sense.People would like to spend money on all kinds of socially dubious items: hand-guns,very loud sound systems in built-up areas, ivory, drugs, trafficked hookers, antiques looted from Asian heritage sites, endangered birds,slaves..., but it is by no means clear that these do much for the community you have to live in.I would suggest that an area with a lot of hand-guns,hookers and the rest of it would be rather irritiating in the long run.
Mind you I would say bidding up land values by house-price inflation is up there with the other dubious practices.
Strange that LVT appeals to opposed viewpoints.Mind you , I'm not keen on Income Tax on earned income either..
