Moneymarketing: New UK housing index reveals activity increase

A new UK property activity index has revealed that the housing market is showing signs of improvement. The Agency Express Property Activity Index bases its information on the volume and activity status of ‘For Sale’ and ‘Sold’ boards across the UK. It has found that the number of ‘Sold’ signs instructed by estate agents in May rose to its second highest level in 12 months - showing a 1.7 per cent increase on April and a 123.2 per cent increase on December 2008’s two-year low. The Index also reports a 2.1 per cent increase from April to May in the number of ‘For Sale’ boards being erected - the fourth month out of the last five that the number of new boards has increased on the previous month since December 2008.

I've started an index this year which tracks the amount of horsesh*t spouted by people with no idea what they're talking about.

It's up this year. In fact, on an seasonally adjusted annualised basis it's up the most since records began.

Shill research and claque marketing.

It is a way of being able to omit unfavourable data by saying "Although prices are down 20% and activity has dropped 30%, the number of For Sale and Sold signs has risen"

One of my neighbours sadly died back in December 2008 - property has been on the market since January of this year - earlier this week the EA elected to place 2 new For Sale signs front and back - this type of action should get the market moving again and push up the new index. I guess techieman might dump any interest in the £/$ or FTSE/DAX and throw his shirt on this index !

For Sale boards don't mean the houses are selling, but it may show a glut of properties coming to the market, and as any economist will tell you if there are too many houses for sale - prices will be driven down.

@refusetobuy - is that the number of posts that hold up the top bit of the For Sale board?
