The Guardian smells the coffee
Guardian: Gordon Brown must go – by June 5
Politics tests character, often to destruction. The character of some ministers, their shadows and MPs of all parties has been wrecked by exposure of their expenses. How can those caught pilfering from the public purse denounce benefit fraud? How can those with state-purchased silk cushions support the cash-limited social fund that denies beds and blankets to families sleeping on bare boards? MPs with fingers in the till will blush to justify paying the unemployed £60.50 a week to live on. Nor can they rant convincingly at City greed or tax-dodgers fleeing to Guernsey.

,,,,and this from the Guardian!
"The morning after the 4 June election a majority deputation from the cabinet, bearing a long list of MPs' names, should knock on the door of No 10 to tell him his number's up. Plot it now, do it fast".
Nice one, Polly!

The sad thing is that, most people really expected a change in 1997, Labour had the majority they were after, they had most of the country behind them, they could have changed so much, but instead as the article reiterates, the poor and ordinary people on medium incomes became poorer and the rich became richer.

"tax-dodgers fleeing to Guernsey" the media over here in the channel islands is buzzing with news of some private equity multi millionnaire Guy somebody who is moving to guernsey to avoid tax. The local politicians are rubbing their hands and saying how great it is for guernsey and how lots more uber rich will be leaving the uk and boosting the islands economy soon.
And then whenever there is a rumbling in the UK that tax havens should be closed down, they bleat on about how good "offshore jurisdictions" are for the british economy.
BS.
When is gordon going to close down tax havens like he promised? I haven't seen any action yet. Not even from the very banks that he (on behalf of tax payers) owns like NR and RBS. Is he really so full of sh*t? Clearly he is!

What struck me about this article was the breath-taking cheek of Ms Toinbee to expect the people of this country to accept another coup in Downing Street. Another unelected leader of Nulabour, another unelected PM. All so he can 'get settled into the job' and give him a year to show the people 'what he can do'?
I'm middle aged. Middle class. Average wage earner. In rented. Wife and two kids. If Labour tried to pull a stunt like this ...again... I'd buy myself a cheap day return and head down to Downing Street with the word riot predominant in my mind.

This is the first time in her privileged life that Toynbee has ever written or spoken common sense.
