This man seems to be one of the few economists who know what they are talking about. The only thing that bothers me is that he mentioned, 'we start to build ships and tanks'.

As JU says, Fred is tip-top man, but he does overlook that the slump in UK manufacturing is not in output measured by value, but by employment - because wages are so high here (exacerbated by National Insurance), UK manufacturers have to be hyper-efficient with automation, or concentrate on very, very high end stuff.
But bring on Japanese style asset price deflation - I'm happy to sit tight as long as it takes.
