Great! Apparently we're booming again. - Is Gordon Brown about to be saved by the weather?
Express: SPEND, SPEND BOOST IN THE SHOPS
HIGH street stores have enjoyed their biggest sales bounce in three years.
The fine spring weather has encouraged people to step out and spend as the economy starts to show signs of recovery.
And with the Met Office predicting a long, hot summer, the upward trend is expected to continue and further bolster consumer confidence.
The figures show that stores last month saw their strongest year-on-year sales growth since April 2006.

This will all stop dead in its tracks when the inevitable inflation starts showing. Or perhaps because basic necessities are going to rise in price, this will allow them to continue printing these headlines?
After all - do we know if people are buying more, or are they buying less but paying more for it?

Sorry! How embarressing! I appear to have commented on an Express article!
what a waste of time that is!

Clearly it is a function of low interest rates. A lot of people have an extra £200 - £500 per month in their pockets and they just can't help themselves.
1/4% rise in base rates will be like a nuclear bomb on high street spending.

There will be no spending money when interest rates and taxes rise.
This inconsequential comment is purely in the interests of helping inbreda over his embarrassment.

These are the headlines we all want to see.
The governments QE policy obviously working.
Enough doom and gloom. Lets spend our way out of this.
I think by the end of June we will have seen the worst of this recession off. Thank god for that.

Don't worry we've got bad weather forecast for this weekend so expect consumers to sit inside all miserable again watching omnibus editions of various soaps.

Weatherwise 1976 was outstanding but it saw off Harold Wilson and Jeremy Thorpe as party leaders.Wilson was replaced by Callaghan
