Did MP's run the UK economy so that they could fill their boots?

Telegraph: MPs could face income tax bills over expenses

Section 292 of the Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003 Act states that no income tax liability arises from allowances paid to MPs for “additional expenses necessarily incurred by the Member in staying overnight away from the Member’s only or main residence, for the purpose of performing parliamentary duties.” However, we now know that to avoid paying capital gains tax MP's have been stating to HMRC that their second home was in fact their primary home! The timing of this act is interesting as in 2004 interest rates should have been raised but were in fact reduced (often rumoured due to political pressure) thus causing the boom in the housing market. Therefore a layman might conclude that MP's have run the UK economy for the sole purposes of filling their boots!

When considering filling ones boots only an idiot would consider doing so by becoming an MP. Far easier ways to earn money.

Am I a bad person because the thought of (especially Labour) MPs being investigated by the Inland Revenue makes me very happy? That all those extra Revenue investiagtors will now turn their gaze from the productive sector of the economy to the 'pigs in troughs' sector that is the House of Commons?

Worried about taxes?
Mad about government expenses?
Shocked by rumours of flying objects?

Puzzled? Confused? ANGRY? Don’t know which way to turn?

Well, I’ve got news for you... It doesn’t have to be this way!

Visit the Inland Revenue Tax Evasion Hotline website ... and report your MP!

http://www.taxevasionhotline.co.uk

Where there have been blatant abuses of the system regarding non payment of capital gains tax, the authorities should act as detailed below:-

"HM Revenue & Customs Tax Evasion Hotline

HMRC is committed to targeting tax evasion. We know some people don't pay their fair share of tax, which is unfair for the rest of us. Now you can help us do something about it.

The Tax Evasion hotline deals with income tax, corporation tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, VAT and National Insurance.

The Hotline can take your call on 0800 788 887 (Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm), or you can submit a report here.

No information - however trivial it may seem -is too small. It could be the key to stopping fraudulent or criminal activity.

Nice Post@10.

The Tax payers alliance should set up a link.

Name and Shame them.

And go into specific details. With a search by county facility. That way I can report my MP.

Wouldnt that be great>? Turn their nasty powers back onto them..............

Without REAL accountability before there will be a real recovery

All of the economic and political theory that dominates today's world works on the principle that no-one cares about anyone other than themselves and their family - 'Who is society? There is no such thing! There are individual men and women and there are families.' - so said one of our 'great' leaders. Are you saying you disagree?

Its called politics, deal with it. We need to simply skirmish. Every single abuse must be reported, followed up, etc, etc. If the whole population becomes politically active, MPs will find it impossible to get away with nonsense like this. When last did you report your MP. When last did you write to your MP? When last did you write to a newspaper about your MP? Join a political party, go to the meetings, do stuff.

These are things you can do. I do them, if you can blog here, you can do that. When Vatcher as the unwashed call her was doing her stuff things were pretty dicey. And that generation rose to the challenge, its our turn.

Why have I never heard one interviewer or writer on this subject ask the blindingly obvious question - 'would you now be apologising or doing anything about this 'disgraceful system' had you not been found out?'

I have tried to point out this corrupt system on a few occasions only to be called a conspiraloon. The rabbit hole runs much, much deeper than most would imagine or be able to handle.

Expect much, much more as the years unfold. For some this is no suprise and is just the beginning of a much bigger thing.

Crunchy - how deep does the rabbit hole go? To where the puppet masters can control the world but not keep something out of the papers? Or maybe that's part of the plan - do they move in mysterious ways? Sounds familiar!

If the whole population becomes politically active! There lays a problem .. most people would rather watch eastenders or get fanatical over a football game, than get politically involved..we have sleep walked here, over a few thousand years, but hopefully with all whats going on, and the rest what is soon to come, people will come out of that coma..
@ shipbuilder
'would you now be apologising or doing anything about this 'disgraceful system' had you not been found out?' Nope!

16. shipbuilder, If the papers don't know, they don't print. It's all very well being above it all.

Things are put into financial operation and the rest is pure "reaction." If you can't see that you can't see it. I can, and for me that's been important it may be for others who want to protect what they have left too. Knowing how the wheels turn has helped me no end.
It has been a worthwhile education for me. Worth seeking out.

I am currently studying at university, if anyone is aware of the term 'false consciousness' espoused by Marx you would understand that indeed the 'rabbit hole' does run much deeper (regardless of those who claim a conspiracy, those who do never question that the political system is actually conspiratorial in nature...you are privy to only a small percentage of political decisions). Academics however have long been aware that to raise your head above the pulpit is to have it shot off. According to some academics, there are approximately 89 people who run this planet; economically, politically and through social engineering. They will fight tooth and nail to maintain the status quo, it is in their favour and interests to do so...nothing new, historically based and so in need of reform!
