Bargain!

BBC: 'Modest' Beckham home to be sold

In short, EA advertised for £850,000. Now being sold by auction under a guide price of £215,000. But EA reckons it is really worth at least £500,000. If you want to experience the UK HPC in a miniature mode, this is it.

peter - dont understand your point. Surely its not the home that has the intrinsic value of £850k or £500k but its probably only worth £215k if it was not associated with DB. Isnt that why you pay more for a signed shirt than one from JJB / Sportsdirect?

Hmm... I see your point techieman. So, this article explains that if Beckham brand is adding 300% to the property value, it is totally reasonable to add 25% for having ASBO neighbours, 50% for living next to a railway, 100% for have no parking space, 150% for having economy 7 heating, 200% for dodgy loft convertion and 250% just because the punks feel lucky.

The original asking price was almost four times the ceiling price for that road. They said they would get £1m+ for it back in August. Complete nonsense, just a publicity stunt.

Bend it like Beckham.

J. Hendricks guitar sold for a fortune, but for anyone other than the master, it is unplayable. A true test of celebrity status. Nothing to do with house prices.

Anyone who's been to Leytonstone (with a brain, so not many) wouldn't expect it to reach the guide.

There is a big difference between Beckham and Hendrix......Moreover, Beckham only lived there when he was really small, and probably even before he began to play football.

This just smacks of absolute greed........

If it's worth £500k, why isn't the guide price £500k?
Answer: because it's not worth £500k.

And as far as I'm aware, you can't hang a house on a wall, or plug it into an amplifier. You can't even move it to America.

That's why house prices are where they are. It has nothing to do with there built in value. Hope I have made my point!

Move on.

I have no problem with this.

If the property sells to someone who wants to live in this area, it will sell for circa 200k.

If a rich Beckham fan wants it as a trophy house they will pay more, maybe much more.

If so good luck to the owners, I would definitely be doing the same (moving away from Leytonstone).

Ah, a good BTL investment there. Weekend rents to any Man Utd fans who fancy a stopover at Beck's old house when their team is playing Arsenal, Spurs etc.

Oh hang on a minute, most of the United fans live in London anyway......
