BBC News: Tenants 'in most debt since 80s'
Hundreds of thousands are falling behind with rental payments, largely due to rising unemployment, according to the National Landlords Association.
The situation was "pretty dire" with at least a third of members owed money, the association added.

Am also surprised by lack of posts, seems everyone is more interested in derivatives than actual house prices, ability to pay rent is actually a FUNDAMENTAL which should naturally govern prices, both rental and house (sorry home) costs. Stop tinkering (GB) and we will find balance sooner rather than later and the amateurs filtered out! law of the jungle (ie Capitalism) and all that. House prices are intrinsically too high and unsustainable, they have been for years. The bubble has burst, but the truth is too awful to contemplate so the bottom will not be reached for some time due to the desperate holding out. It seems people are to emotionally attached to their investments (it being their little nest egg) to make sensible business decisions. In the long (possibly medium) term consistent non payment will hit BTL hard; the players will play, the amateurs WILL pay I'm afraid. I won't be buying a house this year or the next (not in UK anyway).
