It's different in Scotland. Negative equity is an English problem!

I went to school near Milltimber it was a seriously nice area then and I'm sure even nicer now ... Aberdeen has well-enforced green belt rules which mean that despite a doubling in size since I was there, the local authority have successfully kept a lot of the surrounding area (like the south side of the River Dee) development free .. though the old fishing villages off the Stonehaven I used to cycle round on lazy afternoons are all swamped by houses now (I was quite bummed on a recent visit after seeing that ).

There have been many booms in Aberdeen since the 70s but bust has never really hit the place as it has in most of the UK thanks to oil money .. however since peak UK production is now nearly a decade past, it may well be that its days as a one way bet will one day come to an end.

Its not all posh people though, a visit to the city centre at the weekend shows it's still very much part of Plebsville UK, same old chain stores, same old tat, same old sad f**kers shopping out of lack of imagination ....
