The world has changed, and the days of flipping houses like rows of hamburgers are probably not coming back for a decade … maybe longer.

Yes, it is an investment, indeed as housing market is now really subject to the qualification, "past performance is not necessarily indicative of future returns and the value of an investment may decrease as well as increase, an investor may not receive the amount initially invested, and income, if any, may fluctuate.
