Daily Mail: Shopkeepers hope for a boost in trade as rent day looms
Retailers on the edge could be forced out of business in the next few days if they can't afford to pay quarterly rent on Wednesday.

Hmm, but does the landlord expect to get a new tenant in? Without a tenant the business rates still need paying. Personally if I were such a landlord I'd just try to get whatever rent I could squeeze from the current tenant in the short term.

our landlord tried to put up the rent last year by 50%, cheeky ba*&rd, ended up with an increase of 10%..
