Forget The Great Depression - That Was A Sunday School Picnic

Theinternationalforecaster: Europe is 1348 all over again

Great article comparing the collapse of the Lombard System in 1348 with the collapse of the European Central Bank and the euro zone. Not for the faint hearted.

So when can we expect the Eurozone to implode?

In one years time (to the week) says the resonance of Calleman's model.

1348 maps to 1 March 2010 (National Cycle)
Plus we have a January 1980 gold peak mapping to 28 March 2010 (Planetary Cycle)

So the primary force that will drive the gold mania to its stratosphere levels next March/April will be the euro zone collapse.

I have been reading this site for a while and despite myself, have developed a strange admiration for your posts. Reading this latest post, I have been struck by a revelation….
You are a true British eccentric and there is something quite heroic in your willingness to plod on repeating the same mantra in the face of criticism and even abuse. Every fiber in my body disagrees with your thoughts and views but that does not matter one bit. This country is built on diversity and individualism. I find your nuttiness to be endearing and more importantly it is a refreshing antidote to the dreary petty bourgeois that populate the country. It is this odious army of hyacinth buckets that have ruined the country. You and your kind have done no harm. In all sincerity keep it up.

Guys ..... come on. I am as bearish and negative as the next man but don't you think the latest bubble to develop is the Pessimism Porn one?

Yes things are crap right now and yes house prices are going to go down further as you all want but really we need to keep the snake oil salesman like this dude in some perspective.

It seems like you can say any old poorly reasoned garbage these days and so long as it is sufficiently bearish it will get an airing. That is not intelligent. We are not going back the Dark Ages whatever this psychologically messed up man might want ...

You refer to a Planetary Cycle, do I understand from this that we are now trying to predict the future by astrology?

If so, this website has outlived it's usefulness.

Hmm.

August 9 2008?

I quite liked this bit:

"And was not gold $120 an ounce higher, and silver almost $4 an ounce higher, only 3 weeks ago? What has changed all of a sudden? Are we to believe that the price of oil is the be all and end all to financial markets? Is not oil still way north of $100 per barrel? Is there not a worsening credit crunch? Is there not a rapidly declining real estate market transpiring as we write this article, evidencing a decline, which shows no end in sight? ... Why should gold go down if the dollar goes up? If the dollar goes up substantially, that means the euro is going down substantially, so gold should be exploding in the Euro Zone ... (and so on)"

Indeed. How dare the market not do what I think it should ...

(for the record, I own some gold but I look upon it as a hedge not a right to riches)

Flashman,

Thanks for the encouraging support. I immediately printed it out and read it to my wife who was feeding our 6 month old daughter in the kitchen. We had a great giggle. Isn’t life great?

For the record, yes my wife does think I am a crackpot, but I’m her crackpot. And contrary to popular belief my predictions are not all wrong. I still remember her reaction when I stormed into the living room in October 2006 (a full 11 months before NR) demanding that we should buy gold because of a pending financial meltdown.

Don’t be too hard on the types that you see as having ruined the country; that has been their “role” up until now. The chaos to come will give these people an opportunity to move in a new direction that will be much more fruitful.

S2R1 - I am gratefull for your introduction to Arnstrong.

However curve fitting the lows and highs of his cycles just doesnt seem to work. My recollection was we were due a "high" in April this year from the lows last year. Clearly (as you know) the stock market lows (near) the Armstrong turning points last year have been breached.

In the past Armstrong has been credited with stock market and currency turning points, and now you appear to be saying its a new instrument that the highs lows will correlate to. You had a go with Gold and that didnt work.

Dont get me wrong i am not being critical i know how difficult it is to call a high or low in any market and in any timeframe, but when does blind faith get taken over by evidence? Possibly some would say thats rich from someone that relies on squiggles on a piece of paper (or screen) and that point is accepted.

S2R1, I actually admire you for not retaliating and you were a great foil for the Bolton Fury who sadly seems to have gone for good.

I don't know if I share flashmans view that you are different because underying the undoubted quirkiness of them, your ideas do read as a species of religion, and religions tend in the end to be the same thing.

Pleased to hear there is a Mrs S2R1 all the same.

S2r1 - I'm stunned that, given the total certainty you have of the absolute financial and societal meltdown that is imminent, you have been selfish enough to bring a child into the world. Surely you feel bad knowing she is doomed to spend her days living in a burnt out bus and eating roadkill?

Bit off topic but S2R1's title does talk about 1348. Scary long term graph, we are close to a dreaded double top with broken support.
"Although there can be variations, the classic double top marks at least an intermediate change, if not long-term change, in trend from bullish to bearish.
Support Break: Even after trading down to support, the double top and trend reversal are still not complete. Breaking support from the lowest point between the peaks completes the double top. This too should occur with an increase in volume and/or an accelerated descent."

bellwether,

Bolton Fury's mistake was to register with the meetup.com (financialchaos - HPC) website with a email account he shares with his missis.
She ended up reading many an email from troy/malct in full conspiracy mode and got a good old fashioned rollocking - LOL.

TM,
"when does blind faith get taken over by evidence?"
When consciousness starts paying dividends with intuition. Ian Lungold (RIP) would know what I am talking about.

Whilst history suggests that social meltdown and wars always follow a financial meltdown, this time may well be different. Why? Free/dark energy.

including a humorous comment from JU

"Discussing house price without referring to the monetary manipulation by central banks is like trying to get rid of stench by pouring perfume on horse manure."
