First buyers sign up to HomeBuy Direct scheme

Property Related: First buyers sign up to HomeBuy Direct scheme

The first buyers have signed up to the government’s latest HomeBuy initiative, which is intended to get first-time buyers back into the housing market.
The £400 million programme gives buyers an equity loan worth up to 30 per cent of the value of the property to help with the purchase. It is jointly funded by the Government, through the Homes and Communities Agency, and the developer.
Housing Minister Margaret Beckett met Sally Taylor, a 25 year old policewoman who is buying at Barratt Homes Equinox development in Cheltenham. Sally is buying a two-bedroom flat for £99,000 which would have cost £142,000 without the help of HomeBuy Direct.
