FT: Britons take whatever work they can
The recession is forcing British workers back into tough low-paid jobs that have been the preserve of migrant labour since the expansion of the European Union’s borders in 2004... “It’s just happened recently,” she said. “It’s what I’d call older, middle-aged people who have been in work for 10, 15, 20 years in one place and now with the climate as it is, they are made redundant and willing to take on anything. It is heart-breaking.”

My company (in Wiltshire) still finds it difficult to find anyone who is any good. In fact we are being squeezed out because we are often forced to use expensive contractors for skilled work such as repairs and breakdowns, and the cost of spare parts (and new machines) is outrageous.

Hilarious. They berated foreigners for being willing and able to do the work they considered too lowly for them, and they are now forced into doing those same crap jobs. I so believe in Karma now.
Bring back victorian style poor houses for these dole scrounging, council estate slum dwelling peasants I say. Nothing but a cancer on this society.

Mark,
The number of jobs on Jobserve and Jobsite are down by about 80% on 6 months ago. For each Business Analyst/Project Manager job I apply for, about 60 other people do the same. Not surprisingly, keying "looking for work" brings up lots of links to people offering to improve my CV. With 60 people chasing one job, there will always be 59 disappointed.

'Victorian style poor houses for the dole scrounging, council estate slum dwelling peasants I say'
What?? Get back in the real world please, these so called scroungers are not in the majority and in proportion, extract a very small percentage of our welfare budget. The bankers, Fred the Shred et al are far bigger scoungers and have inflicted far worse damage to our economy than any persons unfortunate enough to be on the dole could ever could!

Aha! Meat-packing and grating carrots! That must be the 100,000 vacancies fundamentals GB has been referring to constantly. Stupid me!
Since when grating carrots is a desperate job? I would respect anyone work hard to earn a living. Labouring is one of the most dignified things a human can do. It is about time this country start to appreciate this.

We're talking about peoples lives - this sort of response tells me a lot about the mentality that elected the crap politicians we've had for 30+ years......and why we've lost the last paddle.
Shame one you.

According to an unsolicited e-mail I received today, there is an employer who will take on just about anybody :-
''Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 600 employees and has the following employee statistics .
29 have been accused of spouse abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
9 have been accused of writing bad cheque's
17 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
84 have been arrested for drink driving in the last year
Which organisation is this ?
It's the 635 members of the House of Commons, the same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us inline.
What a bunch of b******s we have running our country - it says it all. And just to top all that they probably have the best 'corporate' pension scheme in the country!! ''
If you agree that this is an appalling state of affairs, please pass it on to everyone you know. It's time to stand up to this lot !

Can you send me that email
str2007@o2.co.uk
I don't suppose it's substantiated is it.
I can hardly believe 71 MP's can't get a credit card and 84 have been arrested for drink driving in the last year, I think we'd have heard about that wouldn't we ?

jobserve vacancies are indeed shrinking at an alarming rate.

Str, I don't know if it is substantiated - it is just an e-mail that is doing the rounds. Does seem a bit far-fetched doesn't it ......... but there again!!!
I cut/pasted the e-mail for a bit of light relief, but it does serve to show sentiment of (some) voters/taxpayers towards our leaders.

crunchy-I had one of those email's claiming that someone who used to be our leader was responsible for thousands of murders..........
but there again!!!

When people can't afford to buy a newspaper or pay their TV license, then we will see truthfull news as media workers lose their jobs and those left get angry and fearfull.
