The UK's monster banks

UK Bubble: Just how big are the UK banks

Nice chart illustrating the frightening fact that the UK's four largest banks are approximately the same size as the UK economy. And how exactly are we going to bail them out? It puts me into a cold sweat just thinking about it.

We forget that the bailout is just a bigger bubble than the last(mass of malinvested resources). When it pops, 100yrs of socialism has run its course. What will we get from that? Liberty or Tyrany? Depends whether we or the reprobates take charge.

The figures are a bit out of date. Barclays has overtaken RBS at the top of the table with £2tn of assets, thanks to £900bn of gains on derivative contracts. It could just as easily go £900bn in the other direction and wipe the bank out though. The takeover of HBOS by Lloyds has already happened.

Comparing assets of a bank to the national income for a year is like comparing apples with oranges.

Compare assets of the banks to the total assets of the country if you want a more accurate comparison.
