Yahoo: Vodafone To Cut Hundreds Of UK Jobs
Vodafone has seen conditions worsen in the UK and other key markets as the recession has deepened, hitting sales of handsets.

Oh dear. Sometimes the logic eludes. It really is the tragedy of the commons.
Individually, companies may believe it to be a good idea to shed staff, but what does Vodaphone believe will happen to sales of their handsets if everyone follows their lead?

@paul - don't they normally give away the phone in exchange for a new contract? Now they'll just have to put the prices up I guess.

cyril, unfortunately for Vodaphone this is unlikely to work either - they are competing with Samsung who won't have the same cashflow constraints. If anything, if they want to maintain sales they'll have to cut even more aggressively.

Yes they do, but the alternative is to switch to a sim-only contract which is much cheaper than a contract with a new phone. That's what a lot of people are doing now.
