CNBC.COM: Half of Bankers Would Quit UK If Bonuses Capped
Half of British bankers would consider leaving the country if a cap were put on their cash bonuses, a survey showed on Friday.
The poll by jobs website eFinancialCareers.com found that 49 percent of British-based bankers would consider voting with their feet such a limit to their income were introduced. That figure rose to 71 percent among financiers with six to ten years experience.

Its not a highly skilled job, but is made the preserve of the upper classes by the expensive education requirements needed to be accepted as a fund manager.
I think the majority of the population could do the job if they could over come the old boys network.

Heh! This reminds me of a Simpsons episode where Homer was off work for a while. Anyway while visiting his workmates consoled him with "Wow Homer - we really had a hard time replacing you!". The next shot was a picture of Homer's work area with a brick in his chair tied to a lever on his control panel :)

I know what you mean about the old boy network.
My mate is a fund manager, coming out of East London. As you imply, GtrJazz, you don't need to be a maths expert!

Ergh, I mean sorry to see you go but I think your talents are best employed elsewhere.
I'll carry your bags for you at the airport.

"If you could tell me of the areas that could harbour those skill sets (of bankers), please let me know—I'll be flying out there."
Let me see, there may be a vacancy for a self-centered ego maniac comming up in North Korea sometime. Unfortunately due to a downturn in the global economy a similar position that used to be available in Iraq has now been made redundant.

I wonder what each banker has cost the taxpayer in the UK?
Lets see - I make it about a Trillion so far and there are about say a 1000 bankers who are repsonsible so that would make each bankers contribition to our national debt about £1 billion each.
I say they are too expensive to keep in the UK - let them go ruin someone elses economy.

I wonder whether China would take them...and award then accordingly for their achievements.

If these people are such great wealth creators, I'm sure that their talents are badly needed in sub-Saharan Africa, for example.

Just the headline "Half of Bankers Would Quit UK If Bonuses Capped"
Don't they realise it's a failed industry? Don't they realise they played big boys games and just didn't come up to scratch?
I think they all need lining up against the wall......

What I want to know is, if the tax payers are the share holders, who do I write to, to get a copy of my share certificate?

Although most on this site hold pregidis against "public sector workers", why should any of these bankers earn more than a consultant surgeon in the NHS?

But like George Dubya, would the be able to find the door?
Bankers, in the words of the great Father Jack Hackett: "Drink!", "Feck!", "@rse!", Girls!"
Drink - they all probably do far too much.
Feck! - If they go more sex maybe they woudln't bugger up their businessses this much!
@rse! - If only they could find their own!
Girls - Well, we won't go their for fear of getting on the wrong side of Polly Toynbee or Germaine Greer!

Their business model increasingly looks like a huge scam, and they still have the audacity to think they are highly valued, indispensible members of society. If we had a government that was not in bed with them the jails would be overflowing, preferably from the top floors.
28. Fly By Night said...
Good. Let them go then.
29. wiltshire said...
Why wait? Just f*ck off. Through their greed and incompetence and their greed and their greed and their GREED they've actually managed to 'break' capitalism. Society needs to find a new way to operate, preferably without the (so-called) 'Masters Of The Universe' (ha!).

What arrogance! They should be worried about losing their jobs not their bonuses. If it were not for me and the 30 million other tax payers propping up the companies these incompetent idiots have ruined, they would not have a job. Already, their bonuses should be banned.
Most highly qualified professionals do not even get bonuses and those that do get a small % of their income as a bonus.
Ban the banker's bonus now. If they want to leave the country then they can leave. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Most of them are not British anyway, so they'll just be going home really. What on earth does anybody care where they go as long as it isn't here?
It would be nice if the Brits amongst them were actually made to surrender their passports at the airport as they left!
