Guardian: Britain faces summer of rage - police

Police are preparing for a "summer of rage" as victims of the economic downturn take to the streets to demonstrate against financial institutions, the Guardian has learned.

People should riot, and the police should let them. It's time to put the fear of the Lord into bankers and their servants in Whitehall. Let's have a few financiers hanging from lamp-posts by their heels, please.

The summer? It's a bit to cold to take to the streets now, is it?

We should all feel the rage against any and all who would tax us without representation. Anyone remember this? Where are the likes of Jefferson and Franklin when government is out of control. They are still called patriots. Of course the crown called them rebels. Jefferson believed that revolution, from time to time, was good for the people.

I agree with my father that my generation is too apathetic. Whilst he marched in protest against the Vietnam war and was involved in many demonstrations over the decades, the best my peers can manage is joining a Facebook group or signing an online petition. I joined the 'Demand a General Election Now!' facebook group and suggested that we organise a march to Westminster but why leave the house in the cold winter eh?!

I hope that this year's Mayday protests will be joined by some interest groups other than the usual plastic hippies and hard line leftists. How about a joint HPC and Pricedout contingent?

Demonstrations are in-effective. The Bankers who allowed this mess to happen should be held to account, not the Police of London, or its people. There is no reason to riot, but obvious reason to hold the Bankers and Government to account by alternative means.

How about this for irresponsible policing? In short: 'Hey folks! Fed up with life in general? Why not take to the streets and riot!'

Funny - but when the government mentions words like 'recession' or 'depression' they get castigated for talking down the economy; yet a senior policeman can seemingly foment the seeds of any civil disorder occurring this summer, and no one bats an eyelid. I always thought the general idea was to anticipate problems and quietly prepare for them - not actually will them into being.

Just another government rumour to support a police state and more CCTV.

If you want to defuse the anger of the people, it's easy - just get the cabinet to resign and call an election!

Nothing like a good 'ol summer of rioting by the 'great unwashed' to rally the middle classes to the government cause!

Its everyone else's fault; bankers, politicians, terrorists...

Let me set an example, I didn't buy a house because I thought they were overpriced, if I had know they were going to go up by 300% then I would have joined in the feeding fest. Now I didn't I will not lower myself to blame those that did out of jealousy!

@Matt, "I will not lower myself to blame those that did out of jealousy!" - at least you're honest about your jealousy at having missed out on something you "would have joined in" - speak for yourself. I just want to be able to afford a place, instead of renting a shoebox.

11. rumble ... I suggest that instead of moaning you do something about it and stop being nannied by the state.. Personally I moved to a country that taxes captal gains on property sold within 10 years... job done no speculation here, just cheap rents

@matt, What I am moaning about is the "everyone is to blame" point of view - I do what I can, but I am not the herd.
Which country have you moved to?
