Yet again, sending our money to India? I wonder if anyone in government actually have brains. There are thousands of extremely talented engineers in the UK who could easily do that system. There are loads losing their jobs so they need not be expensive. Typical Labour!

Perhaps some Indians can run the economy?
Failing that anyone but NuLabour.
I see Darling is about to dump Moreno..!

Perhaps its because the British government departments have blundered and wasted a lot of money
Government IT = waste of money
Indian workers = 'cheaper' waste of money?

Makes a mockery of the UK. Enough said.

Not always a tragedy. Some IT gurus, who would be famous and respected in their field upon discovery, go on to become economic masters. The lion shall lead the lamb.
I can say no more.

You'd think amongst all the bank and retail staff made redundant in the UK recently that there'd be enough decent IT developers in the UK to do this. That seems very simplistic, but isn't that what Keynesian economics is all about.
Looks like it's not even British jobs for British workers in the public sector now Gordon, or even British jobs for EU workers.

This is complete rubbish. Anyone who has seen the antics of these amateur Indian outsouring operations at public sector supplier briefings wouldn't believe this story for a minute. Total April 1 job.

Might be a good fit. In my limited experience of Indian developers, if you give really detailed specs, make absolutely no assumptions & spell out everything, they will deliver.

I've worked for EDS and C'r'ap Gemini in IT as a Techy in government projects! They've ALREADY got these offshore jokers working in our UK projects at the inland revenue!!!! and they are cr*p!!!!! I've worked at 4 places in private companies where off shoring hasn't worked and the powers that be have lived to regret ever bothering. The fact is for every indigenous good software developer on shore it would take 20 off shore to deliver utter shi*e that's unusable. Software development is all about communication and thinking outside the box. Fact is the offshore numties have to be told EXACTLY what to do to the point you may as well have done even the most simple tasks yourself.
The real Trouble is these projects are just to damn big for anybody, EDS and Cap Gemini are full of promises but little substance and are greedy(sound familiar). The work should be broken down and distributed across the UK in smaller chunks to different indigenous companies. Minimizing risk of a total failure. work should be done in short term increments with payment made on each delivery! Trouble is the same caliber numpties here run software development that also run investment banks and gov. The whole problem isn't techy it IS and HAS always been a management problem. With contracts going to who shoves the most money into brown paper envelopes AND gives the most spin, as it will be with the IT off shoring. In short if you offshore it will fail. If you keep development on shore with indigenous development but the same "numpty" management structure projects will fail. If you change management structure, improve communication, break up projects and use indigenous uk staff things will work!!!!! Given a fair go uk/us home team will always win Pound for pound dollar for dollar function point for function point we are the better option. Lets offshore the government to India! Down with brown the worst prime minister / sell out in the history of this country!! The well known well branded company I work for are quietly onshoring and backing out of there ridiculous offshore agreements as they are just too costly and detrimental to service. I AM SURE MANY WILL FOLLOW! Call the election NOW BROWN!
