Japan's longest economic boom in the postwar era ended in October 2007 and the nation has been in recession since then, the government announced Thursday.

I think Japan's METI uses lagging indicators. A recession is defined in retrospect.

Longest boom appreciated only by a handful of tycoons. It's hard for me to mention this. But the truth is there were dozens of people starved to death in the past few years in the country. Thanks to the Christianity-based relatively strong charity, I hope not too many people will see the same fate in the UK, while not a few pensioners must have died this year indirectly because of the fuel poverty here, only counted as flu victims.
