HPC getting even more support in some areas

MailOnline: Locations of secret new bail hostels revealed: Is there one near you?

Ministers have today revealed the postcode locations of hugely controversial bail hostels used to house thousands of criminals in residential streets.
The Ministry of Justice has come under repeated fire for signing a multi-million pound contract with a private firm to house a mixture of convicts on early release and suspects who are awaiting trial, in a desperate bid to ease prison overcrowding.

I don't want to start off commenting on my own post, but this just about does it for me. This is absolute madness in the extreme and this government is indisputably insane and dangerous. They cannot run the country in this way amongst all the other disasters they are over-seeing. Surely there is a state of no confidence in this government's actions.

Oh! and By the way..........

State pension value has declined
Over the past 30 years the state pension has suffered a serious drop in value and is now worth 16% of average earnings compared with 26% in 1980, according to research.

The news comes at a time when people will be relying on state pensions even more after three quarters of final salary pensions schemes have closed to new entrants.
The state pension is 100 years old and a new book has been launched - 100 Years of the State Pension - to mark the anniversary.
Author Colin Redman said: "The serious decline in the value of the basic state pension over the last 30 years and the more recent decline in final salary occupational schemes have created a huge gap in provision.
"Individual and group sponsored money purchase pension plans with performance linked directly to the stock market cannot, on their own, plug this gap.
"If people on low and medium incomes are to be encouraged to save for retirement they need a savings vehicle with low charges and low volatility."

Plato @ 1. There are many things for our regulars to be concerned about right now, but IMHO bail hostels should be pretty far down the list. Residents are governed by very strict conditions, i/a curfew, no drugs, no alcohol. Even very trivial breaches can result in the placement being withdrawn, and the usual consequence is back to court and off to prison. Whether the government manages to overburden the bail hostels until the system ceases to function is another matter.

Pleased to hear that. IMHO this seems quite a signficant concern! So you're saying this will have no effect on house prices in the immediate area.No need for concern. Would this need to be included in a HIP?

@plato

I agree that there is much to be concerned about regarding pensions but I think a decline in the state pension as we know it now is inevitable.
The demographic trend is that people are living longer hence pensions cost more.
In the 1980s our economy was relatively better off in comparison to the BRICs and we had oil.
For sure, the concentration of the wealth to the rich has gotten worse but I still think that some people expect an awful lot out of life without putting much effort in.

Basically, the state pension has declined because we could never really afford it. Either we have to work longer or accept less. It wouldn't hurt to deal more firmly with those that game the benefits syste either.

Sorry. Rant over.

Most of the areas where these hostels are are not especially salubrious areas - in fact I think (based on my limited knowledge of the postcodes detailed) most of them have a 'reputation' already.

In some ways this is - of course - councillor nimbyism.

Plato @ 5. I suspect that people living in towns and big cities have walked or driven past these establishments umpteen times without even noticing. Because of the numbers of staff and residents to be accommodated, bail hostels are usually situated in larger type town houses. I would be surprised if anyone living in a quiet little residential estate is likely to find a bail hostel springing up next door, although Social Services placements of disturbed youngsters is another matter. Whether there is much of an impact on neighbouring properties I have no idea, if so then good for HPC watchers.
