It doesn't tell you what source the news articles are from!!

just noticed that World Government thread seems to have been pulled. Looks like a no nonsense 2009
BTW Crunchy is Malct (I think)
3. 51ck-6-51x said...
Mmm very neat & tidy, almost clinical.
If the above from need-a-crash is a request for the source name to be included in the overview I second it. (I don't mind if it's in the title like before, or not - it's just nice to see it without a mouse over.)
4. 51ck-6-51x said...
Oh, as soon as I post that it cuts my alias & post number at the baseline :(
5. need-a-crash said...
Yes it would be nice to see the source name & source headline included as before. The bloggers own heading is sometimes amusing but often meaningless, so how are we to tell which articles to read??
6. phdinbubbles said...
Wow, that Halifax index in the top right corner seems to have come down by almost 20% in a day!
@boltonfury
I asked crunchy if he was malct a few days ago - he denied it, but then again only the true Messiah would deny his divinity.

I have the same complaint as need-a-crash. Have you emailed the webmasters about this yet?
8. need-a-crash said...
I would do but I've completely forgotten how you email the webmaster??
Also does he care about what little people like us think??

My immediate reaction. Change for change sake! Oh well, I suppose now that they've gone mainstream, we are just fodder to be treated as such... How long before all comments will be being submitted to some superior power with a particular vested interest (like they do in the newspapers..) before being published..?

i don't like the new look website, its 'orrible.Someone has been paid a lot of money to revamp the website when it didn't need doing. Shame.
11. little professor said...
There's a feedback thread on the main forum about it here
It looks much cleaner, but it's way too narrow - websites these days are getting wider to match the increased resolution of most peoples displays, the site looks ridiculously narrow on my 1650x1080 widescreen display.
Agree about the lack of news source and original article title being a major downside, the jokey alternate titles we put up don't really convey the meaning of the article in isolation.

I have sent a mail to the Webmasters referencing this post.

HTML no longer works as it did. I cannot do an href - I'll do one now around the text on the next line..
All of this text should link to this very page
Did that work?
14. little professor said...
No, that didn't work, 51ck. I think you meant to do something like this?
15. mytimeisnigh said...
I agree with need a crash, I like to see what the source is without having to open the link. I prefer to focus on more main stream press articles and usually read the proper title, rather than the composed one by a blogger. Also, the font seems too small.
16. Dbc Reed said...
This new format is awful. You need to know the paper/journal the story comes from as the blogger's commentary
is generally meaningless. Also this is too wide, requiring tracking to the end of lines.

SCREENSIZE PROBLEMS????
There is a little light grey button that looks like an evil lego man, press that and it will widen your sreen, it doesnt seem to remember the setting so each new IE or Firefox restart and you have to press it again,
Otherwise I think it looks alright...
18. Troy said...
I just got involved because I liked the old format where the actual source was up front
I wonder if it's a technical issue or a conscious move.
this seems to be a huge step backwards for everyone, but perhaps someone benefits?
btw boltonfury I know crunchy, I don't see how he could have been malct without me knowing

Nice look but its a bit narrow as LP said and no ref to article origin on main page so that needs to be looked at...........by the way LP how do you do that HTML stuff you clever git.i.e. how do you post photos/graphs/youtube video etc... in articles?
20. little professor said...
HTML isn't hard. To do a link to for example google you just type:
Which produces:
Link text goes here
For youtube videos just copy and paste the link on the right hand side of the video, where it says 'embed'
21. little professor said...
And for images you use "img src". so to link to the image at http://i30.tinypic.com/zjctps.jpg you use

Fresh look - but can I join the chorus re. the lack of source information - I'm really not bothered about 'News' articles that hail from the lunatic fringe sites.
Also - a small persistant issue that irritates and has not been addressed - can we have a tool to edit our posts after submitting them..? ..please..!
Most sites like this have such a facility and it is useful..

Fuzzy in Opera, unfortunatly

Thanks LP

The layout of the page looked odd with wide borders but after pressing CTRL+ the page filled out the screen.
26. Jinfu said...
please specify the source of articles, this is very imortant.

I don't like change!

That is fair enough with me if he was on the side of caution.
Personally I would prefer the two of us here.
You seem very concerned about something that seems so trivial.
Quiet telling really.

A bit of the plain hard edge has gone.
I hope the comments don't go the same way.
30. Dwindlingcash said...
The front page is a bit confusing with 2 scrolling columns. Can't remember now if the old one had 2, but I was not distracted with that site even on first viewing. I have now gone to the "blog" to view the articles as it is a simpler layout. Indeed the font is too small and there is too much white space.

Not an improvement at all! The text is too small and can’t be adjusted.
House price graph squashed and illegible.
Advertising is more prominent, which I guess was the purpose of the make over.
Time for a new not-for-profit site for people who want to discuses the HPC!

hmmm. Ditto all comments and... it's very garbled on my mobile.

Hi Guys,
Regarding the Source Name and Title - this is on our list to be fixed. It was mistakingly removed in the new template.

prefered the old style myself.
35. dude said...
I too preferred the old style. At those talking about the link not showing, can't you just read the URL in the status bar? For sites such as the Torygraph it normally tells you the article title as the name of the page. Just move your mouse over the link and read the status bar (you may need to show the status bar if it's not showing). But checking what it says is always good practise.

Something you ALL seem to have missed.
Note all the big posh blue chip advertisers that have suddenly appeared.
I guess the update was to do with getting a deal with an ad agency.
These big sponcers will want to see the counter tick up ALOT.
Agree with you all that the news titles and section from article should be included.
38. str 2007 said...
Actually having looked the layout seems the same as before to me with regard to heading titles etc.
