Turnover and profitability is down on my business should I write to Gordon Brown?
BBC: Steel firm seeks aid from Brown
The chief executive of Anglo-Dutch steel giant Corus has asked UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown for government funding amid the global downturn. Corus head Philippe Varin said state help was needed to allow firms to avoid redundancies amid falling output. The scheme could be similar to the plan recently introduced in the Netherlands to pay up to 70% of workers' basic pay to allow retraining and paid down-time.

There's a very long queue forming at the govt bailout office - I hope there's enough money to go around!
What price a communist state with the govt owning just about everything by 2010? Gordon & his chums would love that. All their student dreams come true. We need a Thatcher to oppose this madness. Cameron doesn't seem up to the job so far. Someone who has read Ayn Rand would be a good start.

So a nationalised steel industry could be on the horizon, we really are heading back to the 70s.

Looking back just on the BBC headlines, all Corus seems to be in the news for lately is swingeing job cuts, and a refusal to listen to government requests to re-think massive redundancies:

That last one from 2001 is especially pertinent:
"The local Labour MP for the Llanwern steelworks in south Wales, Paul Flynn, said Corus has an undeveloped social conscience but a highly developed sense of greed,"

Well, as far as I can see we are hell bent on re-enacting Atlas Shrugged for real, so someone who has read that book might have a little more clue than the current bunch of politicos.

Alan Greenspan was a fan and friend of Ayn Rand, I believe.

Theres no such thing as Government funding.
There is only stealing money from the taxpayer.
Robbing Peter to Pay Paul.
I cant wait until he announces an election.
After the last ten years, there is a serious possibility that the Lib Dems could switch places with Labour as the main opposition party.
