Councils are helping the hard pressed - NOT, the hard pressed developers of Tayside that is by buying unsold stock. The 'free' market in action.

  • I work that out to be £86,470 per unit. Does that represent a fall in prices for the area or are the HA being shafted?

  • Sorry – got that number wrong it’s 2.59 million. So the price per unit is £76,176.

  • £76,176 doesn’t sound too bad, depends on how large the units are, any bigger than 2 bed and the council have got themselfs a bargin. Cambusbarron is one of the nicer parts of Stirling.

  • Drove past these a few days ago in the car, wouldn’t have thought you could have bought them for £80,000. From what I could see on the road they where detached 4-5 bed houses in a nice area of Stirling, maybe theres some 1 bed studios tucked away round the back?

  • Question is, are these new-builds up to the local authority’s quality standards?

The Parker Morris Standards, which were introduced for all council housing in 1969, state that there should be at least 33 sq m for the first occupant of a house, and an average 13 sq m for each additional person. No such standards apply to private housing.

  • Erm, Stirling isn’t in Tayside.

  • No worries – when the local authority goes bankrupt, and a photo of a councillor partying with a developer is released, they will be hunted down and strung up from a statue in the town square, and left there to rot.
