Thants all it takes, "a can do attitude." Just like we talked ourselves into a recession!

BBC News: Brown promises 'can-do attitude'

Gordon Brown has said a "can-do attitude" will help the British economy get through the current downturn and prepare for future recovery.
In his final press conference of 2008, Mr Brown said he regretted the fact that the UK had not been "unaffected" by the global downturn.

Here's the recipe for Woolton Pie*. It looks as if its time has come again. By 2012, we'll all be saving fat in buckets.

'The recipe involved dicing and cooking potatoes (or parsnips), cauliflower, swede, carrots and, possibly, turnip. Rolled oats and chopped spring onions were added to the thickened vegetable water which was poured over the vegetables themselves. The dish was topped with potato pastry and grated cheese and served with brown gravy. The recipe could be adapted to reflect the availability and seasonality of ingredients.'

*Woolton pie was an adaptable dish of vegetables, created at the Savoy Hotel in London, which was one of a number of recipes commended to the British public by the Ministry of Food during the Second World War to enable a nutritional diet to be maintained despite shortages and rationing of many types of food, especially meat.

Why should I bother helping GB out - he's already stealing the interest from my prudent savings to bail-out the greedy and reckless. If they ever start asking 'what I can do for my country', my response would be to throw every last member of Za-nu-Labour onto a bonfire. The sooner they are out of the picture, the sooner we can start rebuilding this blighted country.

Create a fantasy economy. can do.
Lay off the workforce, can do.
Repossess their houses, can do.
Devalue the pound, can do.
Ration the food, can do.
Shoot the rioters, can do.

A not crazy enough to do PM would be better.

Just watched the smug git on the 6 o'clock news. It's time to get this dangerous man out of office!

If I didn't have a job to go to, I'd be marching on Downing Street. That's why they're so desperate to keep people in jobs....

At risk of sticking my neck on the block- I thought the second part of the speech was rather good. It was upbeat, he suggested announcements of great public works in january (as many on this site have suggested). As a performance it went from futility to hope- clearly he has been schooled well in oration (although he is not naturally charismatic). So "dig for victory" is appropriate, but that is a big part of his job- instilling confidence and belief during the "unforgiving minute".

Hmmmm - I also remember Darling saying with great confidence that Northern Rock had a high quality mortgage book. These baskets will say anything to hide the true extent of the crisis they created. In fact, I'm always astounded when sheeple hold sway with anything that eminates from a politicians mouth.
