I expect more of this from Santander - just cant see how they are ultimately immune from the Banking crisis - "Some business customers with Abbey say they have been hamstrung by a glitch in the bank's new online system. Many are angry that they have been unable to transfer money between accounts since Abbey's website was updated at the weekend" Full story news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7777397.stm

Such will be the norm as foreign companies shed their liabilities on shores other than their own to avoid social unrest and poltical damage in their own regions.
They are finding it impossible to avoid self interest and protectionism. It just ain't going to work. Never has!!!

In a downturn management at companies that are doing OK tend to take advantage of the climate and carry out some 'adjustments' that they would find hard to push through in better times. Also Santander have taken over some lame ducks lately and job losses were to be expected.
Having said that, I still think they are in a spot of bother. I think their position is considerably worse than they care to admit.
