HPC.co.uk makes The Times!
The Times: Website homes in on the crash
FOUND, at last – a property business that has had a successful 2008. It’s name? Housepricecrash.co.uk.
When 25-year-old Brendan McLoughlin bought the obscure website three years ago the only visitors were a few doomsayers warning that the end was nigh for the house-price boom. Now, as property values nosedive, the controversial news and discussion website is attracting 50,000 hits a day and revenue of more than £300,000 from advertisers including Sky, Virgin and BT.

HPC was set up to bring some balance to the dangerously over positive spin put on house prices.
How times have changed..

Only a small article mentioning 'doomsayers' and 'the ire of property experts' with an embarrassing rant from a tv presenter. So a few negative insinuations there for impact.
On the positive side: HPC is quite a success.
Personally I have been greatly impressed by many of the contributors to this site. Namely through their realism, truthfulness and technical knowhow and above all their genuine interest and helpfulness. The wider picture has also been discussed in depth with the same qualities and in many cases there have been strong disagreements....... and why not? At least we all think.
Perhaps then, when the next journalists decides to write an article about this site they could concentrate on the technically correct and honest contributions in general that have,if anything, helped readers. Especially when the calamity predicted here has materialised.
Better to know and protect oneself than to deride in ignorance.

Doomsaying? Making dire predictions about the future if people carry on behaving as though they can walk on financial water maybe.
Strange how in a society supposedly so politically correct and so informative to the general public to protect them from hurting themselves or others in day to day life, that when it comes to financial matters the opposite seems to be true.
The one thing that everyone should learn from the last 10 years - Gordon Brown and Kirsty especially - is that you cannot run a country using rampant house price inflation and huge debt levels and expect it get carry on forever.
No more boom and bust? What a sick joke.

Have you noticed that there was at the time of writing this blog not ONE comment against the site? There used to be many volunteering comments how we were all "sad" predicting serious crashes "that will never happen". All gone very quiet now...

Back in Tokyo circa 1990, I was invited to attend a meeting held by NXXkin, which proved to be just another pyramid scheme. After the meeting there was a small drinking party attended by those who already have become members, and two prospects that were myself and other gentleman an owner/manager of a small firm, which developed into a heated discussion. Our position was “In this scheme, you gain much more simply because you joined a little earlier than your colleagues, but what on earth should entitle you to such gain?” Their reply was “You happened to be luckier or maybe cleverer in discovering the scheme. That’s why.” Our reply to that “Such gain based on luck or ‘cleverness’ neither produce any value nor reflect your genuine talent or effort, thus immoral.” Their reply to this was “We are all supposed to look after our own individual interests, are we not? We are living in such a world, are we not?” Kirstie Allsopp undoubtedly belongs to the same habitat as they belonged.

I remember thinking, "Er, I know they don't say it on tv but, er, house prices have to crash."
I googled House Price Crash and voila! I found myself here. It's a great read and I am very grateful for it saving me from many a tedious day.
The economics discussions are interesting but also the to-and-fro between people.
Lucky he didn't name it House Prices Set To Rise And Rise or I might not have found it!!

As ever, The Times misquotes Krusty.
In the originalTelegraph interview of April, The Fat Wondrous One referred to "housepricecrash.com".
LOL! She got the URL wrong!

must be one of the few places where spin does not enter. There is a varied interpretation of events, but that reflects the different view that people have of reality.

There is a national fraud called "the property ladder" and I am their deadliest enemy. They all buy and have a vested interest and enjoyment in watching others suffer as they force prices up and force the younger generations to rent. That's sick. Schadenfreude is absolutely disgusting and a terrible trait. There has been overpricing in every single area relative to salaries and this is pretty much the same as America, and besides, as we will all find out painfully, "sub-prime" was just the camel's nose under the tent. We are going into freefall whether we "panic" ourselves into it or not.
You had your day krusty. You need to go and retrain yourself to be productive. Ask someone in Woolies - they'll be able to help.
