City watchdog's fines at record

BBC: Quick, shut that stable door

"The City watchdog handed down fines of £22m in 2008 as it clamped down on cases of mortgage fraud and loan insurance mis-selling.
The Financial Services Authority (FSA) issued a record 48 fines for breaches that also included pressure selling, pension transfers and market abuse. "

Why do I always put things in the wrong boxes when I post something! New Year's resolution to take more care when posting.

I love how the FSA is happy to go after "mortgage broker Sadia Nasir" and "Sole trader brokers Andrew David Bowden and Shaun Lawrence" for mortgage fraud, but Bradford & Bingley and Northern Rock get a wodge of government money at the taxpayers expense for their fraudulent lending practices.

Amazing.

Yes, as paul points out, it's hardly convincing and looks like a post event make-over. Must admit I always wonder why particular people are used as scapegoats. Have they upset someone? Or are the names pulled out of a hat? Fascinating!
