They have not had a good response in general. Point 5 was a good one in relation to HIPs and conveyancing fees.

They are a menace. They force home owners to pay fees & architects to get Certificates of Lawful Development from Councils for development that doesn't require Planning Permission & enforce stupid environmental controls. They regulate & harm the economy.

I d say they are a total waste of money as the HIPs are produced by solicitors working for the vendors not the buyers. The buyer's solicitor's duty is to find out about the property from his own searches not from a pack compiled by the vendor. He would fail in his duty of advice to the buyer.
The government charges VAT on this at an average of £50 a HIP so nice little earner GB.

Also, the local gov get 2 searches per property instead of 1. Another nice little earner.
