A bold move by Scottish estate agents
Scotsman: House prices slashed in one-day Scottish property clearance sale
DOZENS of homes will be sold at knock-down prices in a one-off, multi-million-pound, property clearance sale today, estate agents have announced. Some houses will have discounts of up to 40 per cent, and nearly £100,000 off. The sale follows the biggest price fall in at least 16 years in the Scottish housing market.

Thought it was the vendors that set the price. Does this mean that they are all now coming to their senses?

Sounds like it to me or perhaps this is just spin to attract buyers. If the estate agents involved have persuaded the property owners to cut prices now, then that is a shrewd move. Perhaps they looked at the state of the market in the South and didn't like what they saw?

What about the other 99.999% of over priced housing stock estate agents have for sale

These are pre-auction properties, wait a few months and get them cheaper at auction

What will be interesting is how many of these properties remain unsold.

House prices have been falling in Scotland over the last few months. It's now possible to get a decent 4 bed detached for £175K or less. Looking at these properties it seems to me that these sales figures are just catching up with falling prices. But it is a positive sales technique and may shift a few homes. As Mark Wadsworth says, it will be interesting to see how many of these properties remain unsold.

@Mark Wads
It will be interesting to see the effects the sale has on house prices in surrounding areas

Hold on - isn't this just an auction that PRs are spinning as a one-day sale?

£100k off a ''Penthouse in Kilmarnock'. I'm only just able to type after a fit of uncontrollable laughter.
So this is what Alex Salmond's arc of prosperity (for reference, it ran from Ireland through Scotland to Iceland ...) has come to. Even Broon & co preferable to this bunch of numpties (as the recent by-election showed).
No such thing as a one-day clearance anyway, does anyone really think that they can put prices up afterwards?
