Urgent work costing about £350m needs to be carried out on the historic central London building.
BBC: MPs could be moved out of Commons
The Commons authorities have commissioned a £250,000 feasibility study into the options for relocating MPs while it is completed.
The work was not likely to start until 2012, he added.

Maybe a chance to relocate somewhere smaller and cut government to an appropriate size?! But seriously, the building would look after its self as an outpost for the Natural History Museum. It already houses a bunch of prehistoric dinosaurs!

We could actually halve the numbers for the duration and see if we notice any difference whilst cutting costs (and future pensions).

Perhaps they should turn it into BTL flats if the government is so confident that they can return mortgage lending to 2007 levels.
Then they could use the profit to help pay off the debts from rescuing the banks.

I suppose that he'l have the cabinet relocate to Brussels and back benchers to the regional assemblies then? The 2012 timing is ominous. Joking aside, its possible that the 'temporary' changes will become permanent. Dangerous times.

How can they possibly contemplate spending that much?
It only seats about 500 MP's - some have to stand for major events like the budget - they are budgetting £700k per seat..!
The 250k they are spending on a feasibility study is probably enough to stop it falling down, and mend the leaks in the plumbing!
