You might be confusing them with MBNA who definitely have UK offices in Chester. Amex are in Brighton as far as I'm aware.

Yeah, they're based in Brighton. Not sure why Amex are finding things so difficult, they've no subprime exposure and aren't really dependent on wholsale credit markets for funding. Maybe it's just the general slowdown in consumer spending that's hitting them, but it seems a little early for that to have filtered through.

Amex have been completely sh*it since they moved their front office call centre operations to India. Completely hopeless, so much so that when I changed jobs and lost the corporate Amex I had, I didn't bother to go back to the old standard green card I had before.
Just not with the hassle dealing with a bunch of numpties who can't be bothered to open their ears to a fairly mild Scottish accent.
I'd love to see them join the roster of financial services companies going down the pan, unfortunately I can't see that happening. Pity.
