I prefer the theory that 666 refers to the Romans, the mark of 666 being the representation of their numerals D C L X V I.
I prefer the dyslexic atheist who refuses to believe in Dog. And why is dyslexia such a hard word to spell!

Noel Edmonds had a contestant called Viv on that Deal or No Deal programme that I watched when I was ill a few weeks ago, and he introduced her and said that her Latin speaking friends called her "Five One Five", it took me a minute to work it out. Doh!

And already, literally thousands of China’s sweatshops are going belly-up, not only because of the global recession but also because (predictably) wages are slowly rising in China and as the situation gets worse, we can expect major labour upheavals to increase and, it must be added, the major capitalist countries are rapidly running out of cheap labour countries in which to relocate production, just as Marx predicted over 150 years ago.
Worse still, the vast surplus that China has accumulated is denominated in dollars, thus the fate of China’s economy rests entirely on the future well-being of US capitalism, and in turn, because we are all tied to the US’s coattails in this global financial sting operation, so are the rest of us! Thus, China too, is tied to the US’s coattails! China's motto is no doubt 'don't rock the boat' (anymore than it is already).

whilst on Marx - this popped up in an odd place - the MOD !
"envisaged for the
proletariat by Marx"
The Middle Class Proletariat
The middle classes could become a revolutionary class, taking the role envisaged for the
proletariat by Marx. The globalization of labour markets and reducing levels of national
welfare provision and employment could reduce peoples’ attachment to particular states.
The growing gap between themselves and a small number of highly visible super-rich
individuals might fuel disillusion with meritocracy, while the growing urban under-classes
are likely to pose an increasing threat to social order and stability, as the burden of
acquired debt and the failure of pension provision begins to bite. Faced by these twin
challenges, the world’s middle-classes might unite, using access to knowledge, resources
and skills to shape transnational processes in their own class interest.

China has been considering itself immune from the 'Western' credit crisis.....but how can it think so when it depends on exports to the west. Certainly China's domestic market will not be able to take up the slack. The west has benefited up to now with cheap goods from China (and other less stable 'low cost geographies') keeping inflation low.
China will suffer from a perfect storm of plunging exports and increased employment, transportation, and material costs, as well as a weak dollar. China will also suffer from industrial unrest, unemployment, urban collapse, riots, etc....with the obvious hard-handed outcome.
In the Pearl River Delta region, Shenzhen, Guang Dong, Dong Guan....the local government administration is trying to reduce their dependency on cheap manufactured goods, and move over to high tech industries such as the aviation, and the automotive sector - but is not looking at this in human terms...they do not give a toss about the low skilled workforce cast on to the street (or back to their rural homeland) or about the 1000s businesses that will go to the wall........they only think in the long term 5, 10 even 20 year plans.
Let's hope UK and European manufacturing is still in enough health to cope with local demand - though at a higher costs, but hey I'll pay extra, and often do to support home manufacturing.

even more oddly the MOD goes on to talk about CHINA in the next paragraph!
Chinese Collapse
China’s economic growth will be accompanied by significant demographic changes,
including the urbanization of its population, which uniquely among developing countries, is
ageing. These factors, together with changing patterns of land use, the failure to deliver
per capita prosperity and environmental stresses caused by climate change and pollution,
could reduce China’s traditional resilience to natural disaster. A future large-scale
disaster might therefore cause China’s progress towards strategic power status to stall
and might even result in it becoming a failed state, prone to civil conflict and separatism.

can someone please confirm whether or not this really is an MOD website?

Broadcasts to the Brain - Page 83
By 2035, an implantable information chip could be developed and wired directly to the
user’s brain. Information and entertainment choices would be accessible through
cognition and might include synthetic sensory perception beamed direct to the user’s
senses. Wider related ICT developments might include the invention of synthetic
telepathy, including mind-to-mind or telepathic dialogue. This type of development would
have obvious military and security, as well as control, legal and ethical, implications.

666 is an abundant number. It is the sum of the squares of the first seven prime numbers.
In base 10, 666 is a palendromic number, a repdigit, and a Smith number.
If you assign each letter of the alphabet a number, e.g A=100, B=101, etc. Spelling "Hitler" will add up to 666 (OK, this one isn't so good...).
666 is the value of the kilohertz frequency of the Bodenseesender, a big AM radio station in South Germany
In the US, '666' is a brand name of cough syrup.
666 is the port number used by the game Doom.
On a Unix file system, a file permission of 666 grants all users read and write permissions on the file.
666 is the sum of all the numbers on a typical roulette wheel.
The Roman numeral representation of the number 666 (DCLXVI) uses once each of the Roman numeral symbols with values under 1000 and they occur in exact reverse order of the respective values (D=500, C=100, L=50, X=10, V=5, I=1).
Combining one of each of Japan's coin currency yields 666 (500, 100, 50, 10, 5, 1)
Apples first computer, the Apple 1, was priced at $666.66.
Organic molecules are based on carbon-12, with 6 Protons, 6 Neutrons, and surrounded by 6 Electrons.
In Chinese, '666' sounds a lot like the words "Things going smoothly". It is considered one of the luckiest numbers in Chinese culture. It can be seen prominently in many shop windows across the country and people there often pay extra to get a mobile phone number including this string of digits
So, the next time you are in China and see 666 blasted up and down the streets, it's a good thing...

Most people seem to misunderstand what the number of the beast, 666, means. The best article I have ever seen about this is called: "Nuclear Beasts of Revelation 13", and can be found at
