The 1996 changes to landlord/tenant laws were a fundamental driver behind the growth of Buy-to-Let. Any further changes to the law could have a major impact on the economics of BTL. Given the recent bad press faced by the sell-and-rent-back crowd, any new laws are more likely to be pro-tenant than pro-landlord. That could drive mass selling in the BTL sector, hammering house prices further.

As far as I'm concerned that can only be a good thing. The private rentals sector in Germany, for instance, is huge but only because it makes more sense to rent than buy. Tenants rights' are massively better there.
Could this the beginning of the end of the AST?
