Just what I was thinking JU. Shows how much people are prepared to stick together and support local business in hard times.
This is why the utopia of 'free markets' never work in reality - the theory is that most people's innate self-interest extends to supporting the business of their own country or area. The reality is that these days self-interest is literally just that and people will pick the cheapest option no matter what and screw the consequences.

[Joke] I thought France didn't have any exposure to American sub-prime eateries?

The restaurant business only works when the proprietor is onsite - when you go somewhere in the UK and the food is crap ask to speak to the owner but don't hold your breath

Le Macdonald has more stylish furniture than the US/UK restaurant though!

French cuisine isn't what it used to be 15yrs ago. As the report says the French have started to embrace fast food more than ever and all this has come at a time when our restaurants have improved immeasurably over the past 15yrs.
Holidaying in France this summer I started to wish I was back in London where the food was better quality, more diverse range and (now thanks to GB raping the £) cheaper!

I've been to France several times and have always struggled to find good food, or indeed somewhere actually open to serve it.
Micky Dees have been our saviour on a number of occassions in France. Which is sad.
UK or Italy have far better food. Period.
