Gordon Brown has backed George Bush's rescue plan for the US economy.
The Prime Minister said the taxpayer's bail out was essential to restore stability to the markets.

I have an open mind as to whether there is a global elite 'plan' or not - but I'm fairly sure that Brown wouldn't be a part of it.
I think the incompetence scenario is a better fit where he is concerned and he is just being used. Sad to say.

I see the Dow Jones is defying gravity again.. higher unemployment figures.. 17 year low house sales.. Brown lost my vote when he tried to come out with his anecdotel measures against our own House Price Crash situation. The word "dike" & the name "Peter" come to mind. The word "dyke" would be more apt, as Peter would not have much of filling that hole either. (Apologies to the PC brigade - But it's true).

from a transcript :-
With the situation becoming more precarious by the day, I faced a choice, to step in with dramatic government action or to stand back and allow the irresponsible actions of some to undermine the financial security of all.
I'm a strong believer in free enterprise, so my natural instinct is to oppose government intervention. I believe companies that make bad decisions should be allowed to go out of business. Under normal circumstances, I would have followed this course.
But these are not normal circumstances.
The market is not functioning properly.
There has been a widespread loss of confidence, and major sectors of America's financial system are at risk of shutting down.
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/09/25/business/24textbush.php?page=2
and the howler at the end :-
The final question is, what does this mean for your economic future? Well, the primary steps -- purpose of the steps I've outlined tonight is to safeguard the financial security of American workers, and families, and small businesses. The federal government also continues to enforce laws and regulations protecting your money.

I think the argument loses credibility with the line "The market is not functioning properly". The market is functioning absolutely as you would expect given the excesses of the last decade. The time for intervention was then, not now. We've had the binge, we have to face the hangover.

Agreed and the shorting is just people realising that these banks are insolvent and capitalising on it. If they weren't the shorters could stand to lose a fortune. The more they intervene, the worse it will get, the suppose 'free' market is not looking very 'free' at the moment.

I think it is naive to think this was planned. All people tend to deny the truth while things are going well today. You just have to think about your own attitude to your own unavoidable death. It is something we don't think about very much and try to avoid thinking about. So too people who created this credit/debt bubble. They were making money so just kept doing what they were doing trying not to think about the consequences. Not only that but society at large was delighted their house prices were going up so nicely and congratulating governments and the money men.

Mountain Goat, what would you do (if you were a psychopath) to get 95% of the world's power and money? With a real chance of, over a further 50yrs of looting, getting 100% for your progeny? There is a plan, and an endgame.

I agree with Mountain Goat. You can't blame people for wanting to make money if the opportunity is there - particularly when everyone else is. The blame for all this lies with the Government and Regulators. They were too focused on maintaining their popularity while they should have seen this coming and stopped it. The media also played a big role, but they were just chasing the money too. Of course they are going to show property programs because that's what gets advertising money in. People with half a brain saw this coming and got out but without wanting to be too blunt about it, there are a lot of thick people around who need saving from themselves.
Does anyone know when a decision will be made re US bailout?

Malct and p4c, There certainly are psychos about, but to attribute this situation and failure to them is what I call "naive" because you fail to conceive the full interconnectedness of the world and instead opt for an over-simplified explanation. The situation comes from the aspirations of millions of people to own a house, the financial success' and failures through the decades, the failure to regulate newly invented financial wizardry, the imperfect economics models of academics, short-term politics, crooks, megalomaniac rich people and countless other factors.

All part of the plan for sure. We need to get onto our MPs now and tell them that 'We're Mad as Hell, and ain't going to take it anymore', specifically, if Brown comes back here recommending the same scam, we aren't going to vote for them. And if they're a Tory, tell them we will vote for them if they bring this up in Parliament.

Someone told me that they thought Crash Gordons speech the other day was the "Brown Bounce" - I told him don't be so friggin stoopid.
The only "brown bounce" i've seen lately is the the sh!te falling off of the economic fan !!!
Perhaps the proverbial "dead cat bounce" could be interpreted as the "brown bounce". The "brown bounce" will undoubtedly happen the day Gordon "the gormless purveyor of sound fundementals" Brown "waffle, waffle, waffle....low unemployment..waffle, waffle, waffle....low interest rates waffle, waffle, waffle....growing economy....waffle, waffle, waffle...." is eventually kicked out of office.
You wait and see the markets breath a sigh of relief when Gordon "I'm blind in one eye and the wonderfool NHS saved t'other one" Brown is eventually dragged, kicking and screaming from the State owned council house that is No10.
What a tw@t. Indeed double tw@t and I'll even throw in a few ****s for good measure. Bugger of back to the hole you and your WAR mongering, parasitic, former socialists, now free market champions, but basically still blood sucking leeches came from !

I found this site about 4 years ago, when I felt under pressure from society and family to borrow as much as I could ( i said could not could afford) to move up the property ladder.
I felt that something was amiss and so I googled the words house-price-crash and found that I wasn't alone and that the regular contributors to the forum were well-informed and reassuringly they weren't crackpots.
This community gave me the strength to hold on to my hunch and I now feel a tinge of smugness as greed gets punished ( unless the goverment starts/continues throwing billions of taxpayers money at the banking sector) in the unfolding bloodbath.

I always from the very start considered Brown to be overly ambitious. I'm not quite sure what lies beneath. He's not to blame entirely but could have at least saved some money instead of feeding the machine fake wealth. The working class of this and most other countries now have no-one to vote for. As far as the elite are concerned the job is done. What little rights remain are being eroded on a daily basis. It really is time for some direct action. I'm sure this site amongst others are heavily monitored. IP addresses harvested etc. So I won't really say what I think.
