Can't afford a house - no job!
BBC: UK unemployment total rises again
The number of people out of work in the UK rose by another 81,000 between May and July, to 1.72 million, according to government figures. That took the official unemployment rate up from 5.3% to 5.5%.

Yes but we live on an island so sound fundamentals are not really that important to house prices here. They are still well above the level they were when we separated from mainland Europe just a few hundred thousand years ago...

Prices are stable, the economy is strong, house prices go up forever, inflation is low and our banking system and economy are fundamentally sound.
