Brown attacks ‘irresponsible’ City bonuses
FT.com: Brown attacks ‘irresponsible’ City bonuses
Does Barclays still have access to a penny of UK Taxpayers money? If it does (and i must admit i have not been paying attention) then why has it put up around $2.5 billion for US bankers never mind City bankers. This would mean that the UK Taxpayer was paying top US bankers bonuses for stuffing up the financial system. As i say - I am not sure if Barclays is still borrowing? is it?

If Brown's salary were based on his performance, how much would he be earning this year? Or would we be asking for him to repay every penny he's had since 1997 on the basis that it was a scam all along?

Of course he does.....

Brown has no intention of doing anything about bonuses - he admitted the other day because of the global nature of banking it is not possible to legislate. These statemnets are just about throwing red meat to the delegates - Prescott types - at the Labour conference who will lap it up and give him a wild ovation.
Useful idiots and all that...

Brown relied on the City and its bonuses on the way up to create his big dream economy, so he can't blame them now. And that's what it was in the final analysis - Just a big baseless dream now turned nightmare.

Sure, but did you hear that the Proles criticise irresponsible nihilistic Brown, Darling and King?!

Out of interest does anyone remember a bull who finished off his tirade with saying "am off to spend my bonus on a place in N1"? Wonder what happened there?

Gordan and his cronies in the were anxious to be in bed with the city when the going was good. Now that things are tough we should regulate bonuses. Cart horse bolted stable door lock

If they're clamping down on the incentives of bankers to change the way they behave, why not clamp down on property speculation at the same time? The argument is that the bonuses reward short term gains even though they cause long term instability. So we can expect BTL and magnolia paint to be outlawed then?
