Yahoo: HBOS Talks: '40,000 Jobs At Stake'

Halifax Bank of Scotland has confirmed that it is in advanced talks with Lloyds TSB about a possible takeover that could cost as many as 40,000 jobs.

Not sure this is going to be at all good for UK banking clients. Less competition, but also notably less protection - everyone with substantial savings with both will probably now only be covered once with the FSCS. Time to redistribute.

Industry experts predict around 1,000 branches could close due to the massive overlap between the country's third and fifth largest banks, making room for more pubs no doubt. (don't they mean more closed pubs..lol)

I wonder if CEO Andy Hornby will be retained on the £1.9 million salary package he received last year? Perhaps a nice fat compensatory severance sum will be awarded for all his good work.

HBOS are the most singularly useless trumped up former building society of a bank as was my misfortune to ever have an account and mortgage with, their sheer incompetence was breathtaking at times, why LloydsTSB would saddle themselves with such a banking donkey unless it is to strip its assets and sut it is beyond me.
