Was this the REAL reason for our invasion of Iraq?
Guardian: Oh for a Basra buy-to-let
According to Major General Barney White-Spunner, just back in the UK from his post commanding British forces in southern Iraq, the market in Basra is hot.

The picture of the terraced block in what looks like Bradford isn't terribly PC for the Guardian.

Let's destroy their country AND price them all out of their local housing market! I mean, I can easily imagine that in Basra the average local wage is not quite 90,000 divided by 3.5.
Does Major General Barney White-Spunner not give a shit about the locals? Maybe that's a silly question.
God it's such a good feeling being British.

Now it's starting to look clear why the Russians invaded Georgia they were looking for a cheap buy to let.

Looks like we're returning to a feudal system. One king invades another's lands, then the winning king installs his mates as lords to collect rents from the peasants.
