CNN: Can Chrysler survive?
Knowing this would you buy a Jeep or 300C in the UK? What about backup, warranty etc, if Chrysler goes bust what happens to UK dealerships? Layoffs? Empty premises etc

On the bright side, there should be some excellent bargains on second-hand Chryslers if they do go bust. Just look at how cheap Rovers were after they went bust.

Umm, who in their right mind would buy a Chrysler in the UK? The company is run by one of the biggest corporate crooks on the planet (Nardelli, who plundered Home Depot and drove it into the ground before taking over at Chrysler). If you read the article, it points out that Chrysler has increased their cash on hand by a billion dollars compared to last year. But they also closed down production of the only fuel-efficient car they were making (i.e. the only one that has a chance of selling at the moment). These people are a bunch of greedy morons. It'll serve them right to go out of business.

There was a reason Rover went bust...their K-series engine was a crock of dung. They knew about it for a decade and did nothing. That company got what it deserved.

Actually Rover went bust (in the end) because it was run by a very similar cabal of crooks to the ones now running Chrysler. Even the circumstances were similar - a German car giant cutting and running, handing over cash just to escape and put a bandage on the bleeding stump. The Phoenix Four paid ten quid and got £500m and a debt free car company for it including a then brand new model designed by BMW (the 75) as well as land, factories and a huge parts inventory.
The main difference between the UK and UK been that the rules in the UK allowed them to (apparently legally) strip any valuable assets right in to their own new labour sponsored back pockets, only shutting down the place right after the cash from the £500m BMW 'dowry' ran out. They each personally trousered tens of millions for their £2.50 investment. No charges made of course, not even a slap on the wrist.
I've driven a few Chryslers in the US as hire cars and it's no surprise at all that they are going down the toilet - they may be cheap, but the trim and finish quality is complete rubbish, they bounce all over the road when they hit a pothole (that's often in most bits of the rapidly disintegrating US road network) and the whole driving experience is utterly depressing (sadly though it's no worse than US Ford or GM). It would be entirely fitting for the entire US car industry and its gas guzzling 4x4, thick tyred creations to be rapidly consigned to the history books.

Sorry guys, Rover went bust because the cars were a pile of sh*t. With a company reputation to go with it.
It is as simple as that.

My X reg Rover 25 with it's K series engine is still going strong at 85,000 miles. Nice little car actually. (Never failed an MOT either).

rover 820 nearly new, engine failed, gearbox failed the list goes on,,,,,,,, they were cr*p

cyril - just ask any Freelander or MGF owner what they think of their K-Series engine(s).
