Polish squatters - you couldn't make it up!

London Evening Standard: Families in £1million homes tell of 'nightmare' as 300 squatters take over entire housing estate

Residents in a street where houses cost more than £1 million each have been besieged by an army of squatters because of a council blunder. But the squatters, including around 100 young Polish men, took residence in the 45 flats just before the handover after hearing it was empty by word of mouth.

Silly squatters for having all-night parties. If they'd kept quiet, nobody would have noticed they were living there.

Agreed Drewster, I remember, as a kid, a group of squatters moving into a house next door to ours and after some initial difficulties, they arranged heating, electricity, water and council tax with utilities and local government and they were some of the best neighbours we had. Then the local housing authority took over, evicted the squatters and turned this 5 bedroom house into 17 flats, at which time the real problems started as they housed several schizophrenics and several 'reformed' criminals. That said there were some lovely families, put into these new 'cosy' apartments, but 17 + new residents in a house designed for one family there were bound to be problems. Wonder how many families they will try to fill all those new build developments with and what will this do to the 'market' value of privately owned flats in the development. Anyone considering buying a new build flat today needs to be aware of the possibility that in the future their lovely compact living space may well become a little over crowded by tenants paying "significantly less than yow" .

"Polish squatters..." I wonder why you single out just this one nation from article. An avid reader of Daily mail, main anti-Polish newspaper? First those Poles steal "our" jobs, now they move into our leafy neighbourhoods...
