Oh Dear I realy do not want to know this.
The press association: Bush sends US troops to Georgia
The US is sending troops to embattled Georgia in the form of a humanitarian aid exercise, President George Bush said.
Mr Bush said military planes would deliver supplies in a move which would put American forces in the heart of the region.
The president said he was concerned that Russia might be violating the ceasefire in Georgia and he expected all Russian forces to withdraw.
He is also sending Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to Paris for talks with EU peacemakers and then to Georgia to express solidarity with the democratically elected government there. Mr Bush said he strongly supported France's efforts to broker an end to the fighting.
He said the massive US humanitarian effort was already in progress and would involve US Naval forces as well as aircraft.

This is a particularly provocative escalation by Bush and his neo-con advisors in Washington. Their hope is that by putting US troops in the line of fire, Russia will not press home its advantage. However, my guess is that Russia will continue until Georgia's hapless president and US influence is removed from its boarder.

Cold war Mark2 - here we come. Shame we don't have any armed forces left in the UK to defend us.

What happens if some of the more "uncontrolled militia" get a bit trigger happy with their anti aircraft weapons? The whole thing is a tinder box.

From Bloomberg...
Condoleezza Rice cast the six-day-old conflict between Russia and U.S. ally Georgia in terms that simultaneously recalled Cold War-era disputes and rejected a reprise of them.
``This is not 1968 and the invasion of Czechoslovakia, where Russia can threaten its neighbors, occupy a capital, overthrow a government and get away with it,'' Rice said yesterday shortly before leaving Washington. ``Things have changed.''
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov shot back that the U.S. must make a choice between backing Georgia and maintaining a partnership with Russia on international issues such as containing Iranian nuclear ambitions.

Definitely the US must be in desperate straits economically, if they are so bold as to try this move. Bush is a bigger idiot than I thought. NATO makes no sense anymore, all European countries with a 1/2 brain should abandon the now dangerous institution, and all its military pacts. The risk is a cascading triggering of reciprocal defence agreements with terrible consequences. LEAVE NATO NOW!

No mention of the 1,000 Israeli "advisors" who helped Georgia to begin their activities in the region. Nice of them to take a holiday in Georgia.
This situation has been smouldering away for about 3 years to my knowledge (look up the old reports on "the Economist"). But can be traced back to the split in the USSR.
Why now?
I'm no conspiracy theorist, but "humanitarian aid" certainly detracts from the problems in the USA, like the disaster in it's Auto industry, Iraq, House Price collapse, Fannie May and all the rest....
Cornering a bear could be a dangerous game...but hey, what do I know?

I see the Hollywood Dreamers are getting plucky yet again.Warning the Russians! It must be like talking to children for Sergei Lavrov. The whole Bush administration put together have but a small fraction of Mr Lavrov's intelligence,
Is there a chance this administration actually realise what they are facing up to with their bravado?
It is time for European Nations to talk some sense into this gung ho administration before they destroy the world.

google - Putin Walks into a Trap South Ossetia was a trap and Putin took the bait. Unfortunately for Bush, the wily Russian prime minister is considerably brighter than anyone in his administration and Bush's plan could well backfire - for Mike Whitneys comments.
