Missile talks with Poles gain urgency

FT.com: Missile talks with Poles gain urgency

I thought this was to do with defending against missiles from Iran, so why is it gaining urgency? surely it has the same level of urgency.

Whiteknight.. you are as bad as T.Blair.. Iran is miles away from Poland.. And I cannot see this article having any relevance on the HPC or the UK housing market. But, in answer to the question, the Poles are in a rush, because governments now realise that Russia is not the Bear with "No Teeth" as everyone originally thought. And there are reports which are unconfirmed indicating something is being organised on a Grander scale by NATO.

They got what they wanted from the little skirmish they engineered in South Ossetia tested Russian resolve and in Joe Public's mind now if we have a missile shield its OK if it protects us from the nasty bully boy Russians.

Hats off to the defence system manufacturers -they set up the Georgia thing very well indeed. They now get their billion dollar dollar contracts as reward.

Some of the press were saying how skilfully Russia had played their hand in showing how impotent the West really was. Maybe the US actually won this round by ending up with an extended missile shield.

@ stevie dee

Anything as significant as what is going on between the West and Russia will have a direct bearing on our economies. I think it is relevant.

To all the other friends here I think you will love the below (not some peacenik rant, despite the site's name):

@ Rotten Tomato.. You are right.. and apologies to Whiteknight. But in truth, I don't want HPC to become associated or labelled "loony lefties" or a "fascist". I'm sure there is something going on.. but if we face total obliteration, then nothing matters, not even good old HPC.

Steve Dee @ 1

You comparing me to Tony Blair? A worse insult I cannot imagine. Pistols at dawn suit you?

Everyone thought Russia was a bear with "no teeth"? Is this the same everyone who didn't see the credit crash coming?

more sub-standard thought and strategy.

Russia looks, has looked and will look pretty fearsome to mess with as far as i can tell.

Here we go lads, just got news of this from the tv:

The Polish govt has given the US the OK for establishing missile defence on its soil against "rogue states".

The stakes are getting higher still, and American provocation increases even more. Insane neocons, insane! If the missile defence was against rogue states such as Iran, then why did the US not accept Vladimir Putin's offer one year back to build it on Russian territory just above Iran? Simple, the US was lying then, just as they are lying now about the Georgian affair.

P.S. : my congratulations to Poland for becoming the no. 1 target for a Russian first strike now.
