Lib Dems Call for housing market 'rescue'
BBC: Call for housing market 'rescue'
Key Quote - "Treasury spokesman Vince Cable said that changes were needed to stop the "downward spiral" of the market. "
The scheme sound a little too complicated. It we much easier to give a small income tax cut to home owners.

'Vince talks mince' shock.
Seems after a lucid interlude he's gone back to normal lib dem lunacy.

Try:
1. Cutting Fuel Duty.
2. Cut Income Tax for everyone.
That should stimulate the economy and also provide a stimulus to work!
We have heard the rumblings of "old Labour" wanting to buy up housing stock all summer. It must be almost party conference season again ....Yawn!
The trouble with buying vacant flat properties is that existing private owners find themselves on a rapidly deteriorating council estate which can't be sold on.
BTW, what builders are we helping out? ....Our friends of course...!

Brilliant, alan. Why has nobody thought of slashing taxes to stimulate growth before? Oh, hang on a minute, they have. Lots of times. It's called "trickle-down economics" and it doesn't work. Just leads to spiralling national debt and hyperinflation.

Your correct Alan the way to really stimulate the economy would be to relieve the crushing tax burden on the general population and business especially small businesses but this will mean slashing public expenditure and that won't happen as half the population rely on state hand outs to survive so in a word were screwed.

Pelethar, your sarcasm seems misplaced. The trickle-down effect as I understand it is making the rich richer so that their wealth trickles down to the lower, poorer classes. Yes it's a bad idea, but not what Alan was suggesting.

We have crack addicts, glue sniffers and the Lib dems. What a load of twoddle. tax breaks indeed and if they can't afford the mortgage they can pay rent instead !! The new social landlord will of course be happy for rent holidays and cheap rent if you are really hard up so that you could save for a holiday or new car.

What the hell is Vince up to??? Having been the political voice of reason he is recently becoming very short sighted and populist. And dumb!!

Like the other two main parties ,the Lib-Dems wanted the "Free market" , the housing market collapse is just a sympton of the same market that they wanted so much !!
